DESIGNER

A meditation on the American melting pot, Opening Ceremony's Spring 2017 collection draws from 19th-century photographs of Ellis Island, where individuals from diverse backgrounds gathered in a public forum. Inspired by Wizard of Oz illustrator W.W. Denslow's work, prints depict storybook scenes of psychedelic gardens and handheld roses in soft spring hues of peach, lilac, lavender, and blue. Elegant cowl-necks, sweeping maxi skirts with floor-length tassels, and ruffled trim create dimension and movement.

GRASSE MATINÉE

The photographer explores the experience of feeling at home in another’s habitat, or why the intimacy of someone else’s space can feel so strangely fulfilling. Massima, Tariq and Ruqayyah are photographed in private spaces, but with the comfort of their body language, create an ambiguity around their surroundings. Questioning, whose home they are actually in.
