OC x Pitti Uomo: Kenzo FW13

BY Alice Newell-Hanson | Fri. January 11, 2013 | 12:00 AM | A La Mode
Yesterday, wrapped in "K" blankets and clutching Kenzo hot water bottles, we watched as Carol and Humberto's menswear collection entered new terrain at Pitti Uomo in Florence. Staged in the city's historic food hall, the Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo, Kenzo's Fall/Winter 2013 show did drama with a capital D. Towering metal beams and billowing smoke created a chilly, futuristic backdrop for a collection inspired by sky gods and aviators.

As ever, the offering delivered prints we wanted to pull straight off the runway. The painterly-looking cloud motif seen in the opening look was woven through the collection in changing colors until it became a pseudo-camo print. It even appeared on hardshell backpacks made in collaboration with outdoor accessories brand Boblbee. And, of course, the iconic Kenzo tiger took on a new form for "The Jungle of the Sky," scaled-down and tessellated.

Kenzo kids will be happy to hear that the emphasis on tailoring and sporty silhouettes remained a constant for fall. Suits came in iridescent silk and were worn with one of Delfina Delettrez's ingenious contributions: metal pocket squares! But there were softer shapes mixed in too. Versions of outdoor staples added coziness to the cool. Next fall, cloud-print snow boots and fuzzy baby-blue fleeces will be keeping us warm.
