Having worked with one of the fashion industry’s most creative minds—ahem, Martin Margiela—it would be expected that Lutz Huelle would bring an imaginative vision to the runway. He did not disappoint.
Taking after his mentor, Huelle often plays with proportion, and for Fall/Winter 2017 he focused on the shoulder, showing boxy capes, exaggerated ruching, and sharp, structural wing-like embellishments. He also experimented with varied materials, creating hybrid denim-and-bomber jackets and an intarsia sweater-meets-puffer coat. Perfect for days when you’re feeling many things at once and just can’t decide what to wear.
Huelle continues to fly a bit under the radar each season, though we can’t figure out why. His thought-provoking designs offer looks that are far from mundane, without feeling too over the top. It’s what keeps us constantly clamoring for more.
