For Fall 2017, Opening Ceremony journeys West. The trip doesn’t have a destination, per se: it winds through buttes and rocky landscapes, blooming cacti and biker bars, dusty rest stops and night skies that glitter like rhinestones. The clothes on this trip are the best roadside attraction, worn-in in just enough that, in understated silhouettes with a touch of sparkle, they guarantee their wearer will blend in perfectly with the O'Keeffian landscapes—and stand out everywhere else.
Prints take inspiration from the scenery: a plaid chiffon comes in sunset hues, silky tracksuits channel geological formations, and a double-layer mesh tee features a wavy sand-dune grain. A scorpion scurries across a kimono. Her friends make an appearance on a silk track pant and a jacquard coat. The arachnid, native to Arizona and New Mexico, is also the star of several worn-in T-shirts, which read “Love Stings.” Elsewhere, unfinished details add edge to polished silhouettes: a button-up cardigan is woven with raw-hemmed chiffon, while a coach jacket comes in a bright pink splatter print or patched midnight black. A delicately-flared dress features voluminous accordion sleeves. Fabrics are a mix of light and airy, for days by the pool, while plush velvet and velour provide the perfect garb for nights under the stars. The color palette juxtaposes classic desert tones like dusty blue, ashy rose, and terracotta orange with military-inspired green, taupe, and black. Pants come with fringes and flares, ideal to pair with Fall 2017’s selection of boots. The classic OC Varsity Jacket gets a glam update with honky-tonk studs.
Below we share photos from Opening Ceremony Fall ‘17, debuted at our first-ever show in Los Angeles co-produced with MADE, an evening that fell on the anniversary of our La Cienaga store’s tenth birthday.
