Since we founded Opening Ceremony, we have always envisioned ourselves as a site of culture, one that cultivates conversations and hopes to encourage discovery. Sourcing innovators from all over the world, season after season it’s our mission to unearth emerging designers, not only presenting each one’s collection, but also be a platform to help tell their story. For Fall/Winter ‘17 we’re excited to share some of our favorite new brands that fit this ideology, as well as established designers that have joined the family, in an editorial photographed by Akram Shah.
Like any year, we headed on a world trip that took us around the globe, but we had to make sure we visited friends at home first. Starting in New York City, we were crazy excited to carry longtime OC-fam and alum, Nicole Saldana's first shoe line (so proud!). Then we met some new faces like the men’s brand Cobra and cool working-girl essentials from Section 8. It can’t always be about the youngins’ though … when Isabella Burley called us up about Helmut Lang’s resurgence, we picked up, right away. The iconic New York brand not only reissued archival pieces, but is also starting fresh with a Designer in Residency program, premiered this past week by Shayne Oliver. Our Euro trip introduced us to the dreamy world of Molly Goddard, Finland’s Heikki Salonen, and 2017’s LVMH Prize winner Marine Serre. And last but not least, in Shanghai, Seoul, and Tokyo we found SIRLOIN building a wardrobe from the inside out (think underwear that matches your outfit!), Lemonplet by Choyo’s incredibly soft and hard-to-believe faux fur coats (seriously, you need to feel them) offered up in basically every color of the rainbow, and Tokyo’s M.Y.O.B. favorited by artists and musicians alike.
