To say that JW Anderson’s Fall 2017 collection is “all grown up” may be putting it too simply, but it certainly is sophisticated in ways we haven’t quite seen from the designer’s eponymous collection before. Perhaps it’s the influence of his work for Loewe? Whatever it is, it’s working.
The British designer showed a series of ultra-feminine pieces—draped, ruched, and cinched—that came across almost as wearable sculptures. The attention to construction was evident without feeling overwrought, and there was a sense of ease in each delicate fold of silk that came down the runway. His choice of fabrics, from smooth silks to buttery leathers, added to the lush feeling of the collection.
But don’t be fooled, there’s still a sense of humor and playfulness in his designs, from ostrich feather-embellished skirts to chainmail tops and dresses. Proof that the JW Anderson girl—or woman—does it all.
