As teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs, we always dreamed of exploring the world outside: beyond the malls and skate parks and cul-de-sacs, and the surrounding mountains, desert, and beach. It’s only now, having done that, that we understand just how much Los Angeles influenced us. The city’s bricolage aesthetic, its natural landscape, and its wholly modern attitude continue to shape not only our design but our outlook.
For Fall 2017, we’re bringing our fashion show home—for the first time. The show is, in part, a love letter to our Los Angeles store, opened ten years ago in April in Charlie Chaplin’s former dance studio. It is also a love letter to cinema. The collection, a Modern Western, imagines what silver-screen outlaws would look like today, as real women who bring adventure wherever they go, from desert canyon to city street.
Naturally, we have a few partners in crime. One is MADE LA, our show’s co-producer. Another is RZA, legendary musician and Wu-Tang Clan founder, filmmaker, and martial arts expert. A third is Zoë Bell, the New Zealander choreographer, actress, and stuntwoman behind such feats as scaling a banister holding a samurai sword in Kill Bill. Though neither Bell nor RZA are from Los Angeles, both now call the city home.
We hope you’ll join us in doing the same — at the very least, for tonight.
