This September we’re turning a whopping fifteen years old and if you’ve hung out with us long enough, it’s no secret our staff and strong community of friends, artists, or contributors are often referred to as family instead of the usual colleagues. Like any family there’s lots of laughs, tears, and great stories. And as Opening Ceremony has gotten older, we’ve grown with it—From late nights at Max Fish to becoming parents, we have our very-own coming of age tale, by each other's side every step of the way.
Three years ago we started a tradition, bringing together the first member of our nuclear fam to ever become a mom, Shirley Yung (VP of Product & Development)
and OC co-founder Carol Lim, the second official mama on our roster. The reason (not like these longtime friends need one) was Mother’s Day. What made the occasion even more special was we were about to have our third OC-mom, Bettina Chin, who had some questions about what to expect when you’re … you know ...expecting. Before we could even blink Bettina and Adrienne
(the newest members of the mom clique) had beautiful baby boys, swapping motherhood stories with Carol and Shirley like veterans.
All the while this was going on (surprise!) we had another soon-to-be mama on the way … OC’s director of retail Jayna Lin. Jayna has been a member of our family for over ten years—if you know how old we are (someone wasn’t reading that well) that’s forever. Which makes the birth of her beautiful, healthy baby girl named Makeda this year, incredibly special. For our third year in a row we bring together the new moms to see how they’ve gone from late-night party stories to ones about poop (hmmm, head scratch) just in time for Mother’s Day. The question on everyone’s mind though ... Who’s going to be next? Below OC’s Bettina and Jayna talk mom life for our traditional Mother’s Day roundtable.
