Have you heard? This year, Creative Time
is honoring our very own Humberto and Carol for their “rich history of thoughtful collaborations with artists”. Creative Time throws a fundraising gala each year to support their commitment to three core values: that art matters, artists’ voices are important in shaping society, and public spaces are places for creative and free expression.
What’s a better way to celebrate in OC style than by bringing different nations together for family meal? Next Wednesday, May 3rd we’ll be doing just that, taking over City Point in Brooklyn for a dining experience led by OC-fam, Mission Chinese Food’s executive chef Angela Dimayuga. I know what you’re thinking—how exciting could a dinner be? Well, think again, because this menu features some serious food by a seriously badass group of women—you’re not going to find any chicken or beef here, but there’s gonna be plenty of those home-cooking vibes!
Before the big night, we joined Humberto and Carol who sat down with Angela to put the finishing touches on the female-driven menu for the gala (an event we've been collaborating on creatively for the past six months!) But most importantly, to have some laughs and crack some fish. In preparation for the event, Angela partnered with The League of Kitchens
, a cooking workshop series led by eleven female instructors (immigrants repping Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, Greece, India, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Trinidad, and Uzbekistan). As a vocal advocate for empowering women, it’s pretty much a match made in heaven for her to partner with such an awesome organization.
Below, we catch up with chef Angela to get the lowdown on her process and get your taste buds going. Tickets to the gala can still be purchased by visiting Creative Time’s website here
