The end of the year is always a time for reflection; this year, which has left so many of us feeling uncertain about the future, is no different. As 2016 draws to a close, we need to focus our attention on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in 2017—opportunities to work together, to make a difference within our communities, to learn something new and connect with those who are often overlooked.
We've been proud to support so many deserving nonprofit organizations this year with Black Friday and our #FYouFridays program, including Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, Sierra Club, Kids In Need of Defense, the Trevor Project, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the White Helmets. But there's always more work to be done, and we want to be vigilant this year and next about helping people across the nation and in our own neighborhoods.
That's why we'll be spending Christmas with local women's shelter
CHiPS (Community Help in Park Slope), joining in their mission to provide resources and aid to new mothers and babies in need. Oftentimes, well-meaning donors think of the children first and overlook the mothers. But this season, we'll be donating OC gifts to the new CHiPS moms, making sure that the holiday is just as magical for them as it is for their tots. Now more than ever, it's essential to take the long view and the high ground. It's been a complicated year. Let's look forward, together.
With love,
Carol + Humberto
